From B2B2C to I2B2B2C : how OpenAI is building an internet-scale OS with Atlas
The business world’s digital evolution has long been fuelled by platforms that enabled a B2B2C model .. say , Shopify empowering D2C brands or Zoho serving MSMEs or Udaan connecting suppliers to retailers.
But with the launch of OpenAI’s new Atlas browser we might just be witnessing a new platform era ..
I2B2B2C – full form Intelligence to Business to Business to Consumer.
.. and it’s not just another browser.
It’s a strategic operating system for the future of commerce , interaction and task execution .. one that may outgrow the legacy OS layer and redefine how platforms like Zoho , Shopify , Razorpay or or even Flipkart serve their clients ( and in turn their clients’ customers )
So , what is I2B2B2C?
While B2B2C is a known term , I2B2B2C means
Intelligence (AI/Agent) -powering- Platform (e.g. Zoho, Shopify) -benefiting- End Business -serving- End Consumer
OpenAI sits at the top of this new pyramid with the AI super layer .. the one that provides context , memory , reasoning and automation. It’s not just a delivery tool .. it’s a decision making and task execution engine.
IMHO the browser is just the Trojan horse
As we know , Atlas is built on Chromium. It has ChatGPT sidebar for real-time web understanding (??) . It also has agent mode to autonomously book tickets , fill forms , place orders and many more.
So , this is not Chrome v2. This is “intelligence wrapped in a browser skin” and the aim isn’t just to browse but to see , interpret , act and transact.
Now imagine platforms having OpenAI handle the interaction layer .. or .. even nudge consumers to complete checkout , compare plans or answer queries.
OpenAI Ecosystem :
– OpenAI’s operator mode turns browsing into tasks.
– Atlas + Stripe + Shopify = conversational commerce layer.
– Agent SDKs = any business can build their own digital “brain”.
– Advertising Layer (coming 2026) = real-time , behaviour led targeting.
Now plug this into these platforms ..
– an MSME on Zoho Books can soon have an OpenAI agent reconcile accounts.
– a D2C brand on Shopify India can deploy AI co-pilots for every new visitor.
– Razorpay could integrate with Atlas for voice-led checkout flows.
Why I feel this Is bigger than any OS we’ve ever seen?
– Apple owns hardware.
– Google owns search.
– Microsoft owns enterprise OS.
– OpenAI wants to own :
intelligence + interaction + execution + behavioural data → attention economy.
With 700M+ weekly active users and 80%+ of tasks soon agent-enabled .. added with persistent context , Atlas is not just a tool .. it’s the operating system for doing.
Yes! .. AI is moving fast.
Yes! .. Atlas might become powerful.
Atlas might drive well , but we humans will design the road !!
