FAGMA created the platform economy .. AI Is creating the intelligence economy !!
This blog is inspired by a quote my friend shared on WhatsApp .. its a Reddit post which says : “Basically , companies pay YouTube to show ads and we pay YouTube not to show ads”
For years , the world’s largest technology companies didn’t just build products .. they built economies around their platforms.
– Google created Search but around it emerged SEO , SEM , publishers, advertisers and Maps-based businesses.
– Apple created the iPhone but the App Store enabled developers , gaming companies and new digital businesses.
– Meta built social platforms and created an economy of creators , influencers , agencies and advertisers.
– Amazon built a marketplace for sellers , logistics providers and agencies while AWS created another ecosystem of cloud partners and software companies.
– Finally , Microsoft built perhaps the largest enterprise ecosystem of developers , resellers , system integrators and consultants.
The fascinating question now is: Is AI about to do the same?
I think it is .. and perhaps at an even larger scale.
AI companies aren’t merely building models anymore. They’re creating infrastructure upon which a new economy can operate.
Think of it as: Models β Infrastructure β Builders β Specialists β Businesses
At the foundation are companies building intelligence .. above them , developers create AI applications and agents. Then come specialists in knowledge , data , context , evaluation , security and orchestration. Consultants , implementation partners and agencies will help businesses adopt these capabilities.
Eventually , millions of businesses may simply consume AI-driven outcomes without knowing or caring which model produced them.
-> Google wasn’t built to make money from search.
-> iPhone wasn’t built to create an App Store business.
and perhaps ..
-> LLM is not originally built for a significant AI business.
There’s an even more interesting shift underneath this.
– Google democratised access to information.
– Meta monetised attention.
– Amazon created infrastructure around commerce.
– Apple built an ecosystem around applications.
– Microsoft enabled enterprise productivity.
.. AI created economy around something more fundamental: ππ»ππ²πΉπΉπΆπ΄π²π»π°π²
.. and when intelligence becomes infrastructure, the entire economy can emerge on top of them.
So perhaps one shouldn’t only ask: – “How do I build AI?”
The more interesting question is: – “What valuable layer can I build on top of intelligence?”
Because the biggest fortunes of the AI era may not all be made by those building intelligence but by those who figure out what to build on top of it.
