AI’s MAYA Moment
Every transformative technology eventually reaches a moment when it becomes Most Advanced Yet Accessible. Many also call it the “MAYA” moment.
Not when the technology becomes powerful but when it becomes usable by everyone. History has seen this pattern before.
1] Google Search was not the first search engine.
But it was the first that made the complexity of the internet feel effortless. One simple box .. one query .. 10 blue links with ocean of information became navigable.
An entire economy followed. Search Engine Optimisation. Search advertising. Content discovery. The interface was simple .. the ecosystem was massive.
2] Then came the iPhone.
Smartphones existed before it but the iPhone made computing in your pocket intuitive. Touch replaced instructions. The App Store turned a device into a platform. That moment didn’t just create a successful product. It created the most successful app economy.
Thousands of developers .. hundreds of thousands of applications. Entire industries was born from a single accessible interface.
3] Navigation saw its own MAYA moment with Google Maps.
Maps existed. They also got placed on smart phones. GPS became defacto feature of smart phones. But real-time navigation, traffic awareness and turn-by-turn guidance made mobility intelligent.
And suddenly a new layer of economic activity emerged:
– ride-hailing.
– delivery logistics.
– location-based services and more ..
Technology simplified. Ecosystems expanded.
4] AI is now approaching its own MAYA moment.
Today we see it in fragments .. chat interfaces , co-pilots , agents , automation layers etc.
Powerful, yes. But still uneven in accessibility.
The real inflection point will arrive when AI becomes Most Advanced Yet Accessible. When intelligence becomes as easy to access as search. As natural to interact with as a smartphone. As embedded into daily movement as maps. And when that happens, the real story won’t be the models.
It will be the ecosystems that grow around them.
search created SEO .. smartphones created the app economy .. maps created location economies.
So the question is no longer whether AI will become accessible .. It will !!
The real question is:
What new ecosystems will emerge when intelligence itself becomes MAYA?
Until next time… happy thinking.
