Using AI .. identify which type of user are you?

Using AI .. identify which type of user are you?

We often talk about GenAI adoption as if it’s binary. I interacted with 50+ people and the response was either they use it .. or they don’t.

But that’s not how behaviour works. It reminded me of how we classify shoppers.

– early adopters : people buy the latest product the day it launches.
– deal hunters : spend hours comparing prices before buying.
– utility buyers : go straight to what they need and check out.
– window shoppers : just browse .. without ever buying.

So , same e-commerce website but different behaviours .. different intent.

AI users are no different. Let’s take a close look at them.

1] “The Explorers” – They want to see what’s possible. They try new features .. test different prompts .. play with capabilities etc.
They don’t always have a clear use case but they move the fastest.

2] “The Optimisers” – They use AI cause they want better outcomes. They compare tools .. refine prompts .. iterate outputs etc.
They’re not just using AI but they also learn how to use it well at all times.

3] “The Executors” – They know what they want. They use it to write emails .. summarise document .. fix software codes etc.
They are not open to experimentationbut they are just focused on outcomes. For them , AI is a utility.

4] “The Browsers” – They explore , but lightly. They scroll suggestions .. try a few things .. and come back occasionally – at times unknowingly.
They have very high curiosity but very low commitment.

What’s interesting about this classification is : “people don’t stay in one category all the time – they move.”

– a browser becomes an explorer.
– an explorer becomes an optimiser.
– an optimiser becomes an executor.
– and sometimes, they go back.

Which means AI adoption is not fixed point in thee moment. It’s a constant journey.

Most conversations today focus on access:
– free vs paid.
– personal vs enterprise.

But the real difference lies elsewhere.

* – how deeply are you using AI?
* – how clearly do you know what you want from it?

Because the value of AI is not defined by the tool. It is defined by the user’s behaviour. And perhaps the real shift is this:

“we are not just learning how to use AI , we are learning how to think with it.”

Until next time .. happy thinking !!
