Customer Journey Decoded 10 min October 13, 2026

In the coming days, AI will stop planning the Trip .. It will start Living it with you

Sumit
Core Takeaway: Traffic attribution tells you the toll booth your customer drove through; intent intelligence tells you the destination they were desperate to reach.

Well , most AI travel planning today works like this:
– You ask for a 5-day itinerary.
– AI studies destinations , attractions , restaurants , distances , reviews and your preferences .. then it gives you a beautifully organised plan.
.. Day 1 .. Day 2 .. Day 3..

Everything looks perfect .. until the real world arrives.
– your flight is delayed.
– it rains.
– a museum is unexpectedly closed.
– traffic turns a 20-minute ride into an hour.
– the restaurant has a 90-minute waiting time.

Suddenly the meticulously planned itinerary starts falling apart and that’s when I realised something.

Motivation : “Knowing the world is very different from knowing what is happening in the world right now.”

The next generation of AI won’t merely weave knowledge , it will continuously “map knowledge against real-world context”. Imagine your travel AI knowing:

– you were supposed to reach Paris at 9 AM.
– your flight will now land at 11:40.
– it is raining heavily.
– the Louvre queue is unusually long.
– your dinner reservation is at 8 PM.
– metro line you planned to use has a disruption. .. and so on ..

Today’s AI might tell you what you should have done. A “living” agent system could ask:
“Given what is happening NOW, what should we do NEXT?”

It can result in re-orchestrate the trip keeping the context intact.
– move the museum to tomorrow.
– bring forward an indoor experience.
– change the restaurant reservation.
– re-route transport.
– notify the driver for 30 min delay.
– adjust tomorrow because today’s change affects it too etc.

And all this without rebuilding the entire itinerary manually. Now that is a fundamentally different kind of intelligence right??

From: Static AI:
Prompt > Knowledge > Plan

To: Living AI:
Intent > Knowledge > Live Context > Action > Observe > Adapt > Act Again

.. and travel is just an easy example. Imagine the same principle in logistics.
– Supply chains.
– Healthcare.
– Retail.
– Manufacturing.
– Personal finance and many more ..

AI today is extraordinarily good at understanding “what should happen”
The next leap is understanding: “What is actually happening?”
.. and then reconciling the two continuously.

Perhaps that’s when we move from AI “assistants” to truly “living agent systems”.

These are the systems that don’t merely possess knowledge. They maintain a continuously changing model of the world around that knowledge. Because the real world rarely follows the plan. And perhaps real intelligence isn’t about creating the perfect plan in the first place.

“It is about knowing what to do when the plan stops being perfect.”

Until next time .. happy thinking!!
