Why every company needs a “new” Decision Stack™ – powered by AI (Part 1)
Let me start with a conversation I had last month. A founder from Hyderabad walked me through his slick new analytics product. Modern BI , clean charts , deep segmentation .. and all in the works. Then he showed me a new feature : an AI based calculator that asked a few questions based on the data sample I uploaded and gave me a custom action plan with reasoning.
And I said to myself .. that’s where the future lies today .. not in what happened, but in “what now?”
Most companies talk about their data stack .. from CRMs to DMPs to Data Lakes and warehouse integrations. But when it’s time to act on that data , decisions still feel like guesstimates or brainstorming.
You don’t need another dashboard .. you need a Decision Stack™.
What is a Decision Stack™? — a mental model and framework that connects a company’s vision to its daily actions
Now , think of it as the next evolution of the data stack .. a layered AI-powered system designed not to just show you the world, but to guide your next move. It includes :
1. Signals Layer – behavioural data , real-time ops metrics , external trends
2. Meaning Layer – where clustering , NLP , sentiment analysis and pattern recognition give the data context.
3. Decision Layer – rule engines , LLMs , business logic, trade-off analysis etc. 4. Action Layer – nudges , automations , triggered messages, pricing tweaks etc.
Let’s take a D2C Beauty brand as an example. They know a returning customer prefers organic moisturisers , browses on Sunday nights , and hasn’t purchased in 45 days .. well , your data stack knows this too!
But your Decision Stack™ would do the following:
– nudge user with a customised reminder at 8PM on a Sunday.
– offer her the new Aloe range before anyone else.
– delay discounting for her because her past data shows she’s not deal-sensitive.
Now that’s not just analytics. That’s intelligence in motion .. the real difference? — Action!
A Decision Stack™ isn’t about replacing human intuition. It’s about adding velocity and clarity to it. Your system thinks with you.
A fintech firm added an internal “action orchestration” layer over their lending dashboard. If a user applies twice but drops off, the system nudges the call centre, and reprioritises them .. all in real time.
Why??? — cause time is the new cost centre!
Every brand is fighting the same battle.. more noise, less clarity.
In a world where GPT can generate a business plan in 30 seconds, the differentiator isn’t information. It’s decision agility.
In part-2 where we dive into how to actually build your own Decision Stack™ .. culturally, operationally, and technically.
